PARENT/TEACHER MEETINGS

The annual Parent/Teacher meetings will be held in the school next Tuesday, 30th October.  This will give you an opportunity to speak with your child’s class teacher to discuss his/her progress.  Appointments can be made by phoning the office (8224 4614).  Parents with more than 1 child at the school are advised to make appointments early so as to ensure times can be managed efficiently.

Should next Tuesday prove unsuitable for this meeting, please contact your child’s class teacher to arrange a mutually convenient date.

COMPUTER BASED ASSESSMENT

Normally at October Parent/Teacher Meetings, parents with children in P4-P7 are shown the results of computerised tests in English and Maths (INCAS).  This year INCAS have been shelved and replaced by CBA’s.

Unfortunately the implementation of these CBA’s has been beset with difficulties and our school has not been immune from this.  Twice last week tests in English had to be abandoned due to technical difficulties and as things stand, schools have been advised not to proceed until these problems are resolved.  As a result, it appears highly unlikely that teachers will report on Computer Assessment this year unless things change very quickly in the next few days.  We apologise for this, but, like many other schools in our position, can assure you that the problems were beyond our control.

CASH FOR CLOBBER

A ‘Cash for Clobber’ day when bags of old unwanted clothing, shoes etc has been arranged for collection on Friday, 9th November.  A bag to place these items in will be issued after the Halloween break.

HALLOWEEN FANCY DRESS

As has been the tradition in recent years children are invited to bring a fancy dress costume to school next Monday, 29th October.  Children are asked to wear their uniform to school as usual and will then dress up at lunch time.  Parents are asked not to go to any unnecessary expense for this as it is purely for a bit of fun and novelty value.  Please note a special Halloween Menu will be on offer for dinner next Monday to add to the spooky atmosphere.

HALLOWEEN HOLIDAYS

School will be closed from next Tuesday, 30th October for the Halloween break.  School will re-open as usual on Monday, 5th November.  Full details of holidays and other upcoming events in the school calendar can be found on the school’s website www.sacredheartprimary.com

FOOTBALL

Commiserations to Master Kelly and his Eskra team mates following their Championship Final defeat on Friday night,  a gallant but ultimately unsuccessful effort.   On a happier note we extend our congratulations to all our past pupils involved in the Tattyreagh reserve squad who won the league on Saturday. A terrific season comprising of 15 victories from 15 games is some testament to those involved.  Well done to all!!

CHRISTMAS SHOE BOX APPEAL

Following the outstanding success of last year’s ‘Shoebox Appeal’ for children in the poorest countries of the world, it has been decided to run the venture again this year.  Your child has received a leaflet outlining the programme and stating what types of items are suitable or unsuitable.  A collection date for the appeal has been arranged for Tuesday, 13th  November. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

SCHOOL DINNERS

This week we are on Week 4 of the Dinner Menu.
