CONGRATULATIONS P.4

A big congratulations is extended to all our P.4 pupils who made their 1st Holy Communion on Saturday.  All pupils contributed magnificently to the Mass itself and evidently prepared diligently for their big day.  Hopefully they all had a day which will remain long in their memory.  Well done all!

Many thanks also to all those who made up the choir for the 1st Communion Mass.  It is indeed very gratifying to know that the school community will rally together on such an occasion to ensure the event is so special.  On a similar theme, thanks to the members of the Parents’ Association for their splendid efforts in providing refreshments afterwards back in the school – it really was very much appreciated.

SHARED EDUCATION MATHS TRAIL

Pupils in P.1 and P.2 are off to Denamona P.S. on Tuesday morning when they will participate in a ‘Maths Trail’ along with pupils from Denamona P.S. and St. Lawrence’s P.S.  Pupils will be back in school for lunchtime so usual dinner/lunch arrangements will suffice.

BEAR HUNT

Pupils in P.1 and P.2 are off on a trip on Thursday when they will go on a ‘Bear Hunt’ in Parkanaur.  This trip will see our pupils join up with Denamona P.S. and St. Lawrence’s P.S. Fintona as part of the Shared Education Programme and as a result, the cost of the trip is free.  Pupils are asked to bring a packed lunch, a coat (and wellies) and should be back at school at the slightly later time of 3.00pm approx.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Good luck to our 2 teams of boys and girls who are off to Greencastle on Thursday morning to participate in their annual Cross-Country competition.  Doubtless, all concerned will give a good account of themselves.

ART/STEM AFTER SCHOOL

This week will see the final week of our after-school programmes for Art and Stem.  These certainly proved very popular and will resume in the next academic year.

BREAKFAST CLUB

We have been trialling a ‘Breakfast Club’ in the school over the past 3 months.  Unfortunately the Breakfast Club is going to finish this week due to lack of interest.  To those families who found it a valuable resource we can only apologise but as mentioned at the beginning of the trial, the club had to be ‘cost effective’ and this simply is not the case.  The club will continue this week as usual but will finish on Friday, 26th May.

SCHOOL CLOSURE

Please note that the school will be closed on Monday and Tuesday of next week (29th & 30th May).

GOLF LESSONS

The school has been approached with a view to offering golf lessons in the next academic year.  Full details of this programme can be found online at www.sdgolf.co.uk/junioracademy.html.  The cost for the Junior Golf Passport is £20 per month so a considerable financial commitment would be involved.  We are simply trying to establish a level of interest at this stage to see if there are sufficient numbers to proceed.  Should you be interested in your child enrolling in this venture please contact the school.

MRS ROSEMARY FOX R.I.P.

We ask for the prayers of the entire school community for the repose of the soul of Mrs Rosemary Fox, mother of Mrs Mellon, who died yesterday.  The thoughts and prayers of our staff, parents and pupils are with Mrs Mellon and her family at this very difficult time.  Mrs Fox’s Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11.00am tomorrow (Tues) in Carrickmore.
