Tuesday, 4th September 2018 Weekly Note
WELCOME BACK
A big welcome back is extended to all our pupils throughout the school, with a particular welcome to our new recruits. Joining us in P.1 are Cara, Fergal, Daniel, Cahir, Finbarr, Michael and Joseph. We extend a warm welcome to all pupils new and ‘established’, we hope and trust that you will have a very enjoyable and rewarding year ahead.
As always we encourage parents to play an active role in their child/children’s education and invite you to contact the teacher concerned should your child encounter any trouble ‘settling in’ or indeed at any time of the year. We value the interest of you, our parents and trust that we can rely on your support for the coming year.
UNIFORM
All children are looking resplendent in their new school sweaters and cardigans. May we ask you to take time to ensure that all children’s clothing is labelled so as to avoid any unnecessary confusion.
HEADLICE
This is not always a topic we like to discuss but just a simple reminder to remain vigilant as to the possibility of the presence of lice in your child’s hair.
MILK
For those children who wish to take milk, the cost for the new term which takes us to Christmas is £9. Milk will begin on Thursday of this week.
DINNER MONEY
School dinner costs £2.60. Please note that money can only be handed in to the office from Monday to Wednesday. Payment by cheque for school dinners should be made out to
E A Western Region. Any family who feel they may be entitled to Free School Meals can make relevant enquiries to the Education Authority tel. 8241 1496.
TRANSFER PROCEDURE
Any P.7 parent planning to get their child to sit the Transfer Exam for admission to Grammar School is reminded that registration closes on Friday, 21st September 2018 at 2.00pm. Application forms can be obtained from the local Grammar Schools. Any P.7 parent who wishes to discuss this year’s entire Transfer arrangements should contact Mr McElholm.
WRAP AROUND CARE
The school is currently investigating the possibility of ‘wrap around care’ under the management of Cornabracken Day Care. Already there has been plenty of interest in this via the school’s Facebook page but ultimately it will be numbers attending which will determine whether this venture will be possible. Anyone who might be interested in this (but has not already done so) is asked to notify the school this week. The ‘after-school’ provision for P.1-P.3 pupils from 2.15 – 3.15pm is still available and continues as usual this week. Costs for this facility are £2 daily per child (£1 for additional family members).
PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION
There will be a meeting of the Parents’ Association in the school tomorrow night (Wed) at 7.30pm. The Parents’ Association is a voluntary support group who help the school via raising much needed funds but also help out with tea-making etc. at school events such as 1st Holy Communion, Christmas Plays etc. The Parents’ Association are requesting new members to offer their services and all interested individuals can be assured of a very warm welcome.
